World Together Travel Network Newsletter - December, 2007

What's New?
See it all at New on Site

Marc and Line (Browning) just got back from Mokko's in Jamaica.  They have promised a link to their trip report for next newsletter, but until then you can keep an eye on their website.

Products using photographs from the Website are now available at Worlds Together Travel Online Store .  Part of the proceeds go to the photographers and to the folks in the photos.  They thank you for your support.

Quick Tip for the Hip Trip

My Home Town

Years ago I read an article about how to change the way you look at your own world. This idea changed me and I would like to share it with you.

Go into your home town and look upon it with the eyes of a visitor.  Watch the people and how they do things.  Look for interesting "quirks" and nuances.  Talk to people you do not know.  Ask questions about what interests them.

If you have time, do research.  What is there to do and to see?  What is the history and stories from the area?  Check in the library, historical society or museum. Find the "roots" of you culture.

Then take a visitor to your town on a tour.  Take photos and tell stories (you could send these to me and I will post them on the website in a new section called My Home Town. I don't know anything about your town!)

Once your eyes are trained in this way, you can travel anywhere and have a "discovery trip" whereever you go.

Accompong Festival - Celebration of "The People's Law"

In cockpit country in the interior of Jamaica there is a yearly celebration held on January 6th.

For your pleasure and/or amusement, we present a blast from the past from a visit we payed this festival in 1977.  These pages are for your preview, they will go live later this month. Jamaica has not changed much, but we sure have!

 Alice in Tonga
As some of you may know, our oldest daughter recently entered the Peace Corp.  She has her placement in Nuku'alofa, Tonga. (We remember how to say this by remembering the "new cool loofa" that she brought back from Thailand.)  Alice's adventures are recorded on the Tonga Blog page, ready and evolving for your enjoyment. You can see it at: Alice in Tonga

If you enjoyed this newsletter, forward it to a friend :)
