Jeanette's Message
I was just chatting on the phone with my sister Debbie. We're planning to meet in Davis this Friday afternoon for a visit and dinner. (Davis is the midway point between where we each live.) As many of you know, all of the rest of my family live almost 2000 miles away in Texas (except my husband of course), so I don't mind the 1 hour drive to see Deb! Our friendship has really stood the test of time, and I always look forward to being with her. I am grateful for the invaluable camaraderie we share and know that I am a better person because of her presence in my life.

In addition, throughout the varied chapters of my life, I've had a few other special friends whose deep caring and playful connections made my heart happy and truly soothed my soul. Therefore, today I'm inspired to recognize the important role that friendship plays in our lives.  Friendship provides affirmation and companionship that is essential to our health and well being. I invite you to acknowledge and celebrate any special friendships, past and present, that make or have made a positive difference in your life!

Health and Happiness,

Jeanette

An Easy Way to Feel More Energetic:
Energy Medicine
How's your energy level these days? Do you feel exuberant and eager to live your life, or are you dragging along barely making it? Perhaps you're somewhere in the middle? Do you desire more energy and peace? With all of the stressors we face in today's world, it can be quite challenging to experience equilibrium on a daily basis. This very often leads to illness.  As a result, many people need effective methods of self-care they can practice at home. Energy medicine to the rescue! It's not a supplement or drug. Rather, it's a variety of gentle techniques and exercises that help your body and mind perform at their best.

The human body is made up of exquisite, vibrating strings of energy that form into purposeful patterns and move along pathways which influence how we function. When our energies are flowing as designed, we feel healthy and emotionally vibrant. However, when there is an energetic block then the physical body becomes compromised which can cause dysfunction, illness or even disease.

This is where energy medicine is most beneficial. Its primary function is to get the body's energy flowing for optimal health by eliminating energy blocks and balancing deficiencies and excesses. Energy medicine can address physical illness and emotional issues, and can also promote peak performance and high-level wellness. I'm passionate about it because it has helped me so much in my own life. Read more>

Quick, Healthy Recipe: Madrid Gazpacho Soup

I have been making this easy, blender soup for over 15 years. I learned the recipe from Shelley Redford Young. She is a licensed massage therapist with a passionate interest in optimum nutrition. It is most definitely one of my favorite summer meals. When I share this light, flavorful soup with friends during tomato season, I always receive rave reviews!

Directions

1. Blend together the following raw ingredients: 3 large tomatoes, 2 cucumbers, 1 red pepper, and 1 small jalapeno pepper. (Remove the jalapeno seeds if you prefer your soup less HOT.)

2. Add 1 quart of good quality water (use less water if you prefer a thicker soup), 2 tablespoons olive oil, the juice of 2 lemons, 1 teaspoon ground cumin and 2 teaspoons of good quality salt. (I use sea salt or himalayan salt.) Add garlic to taste and blend again.

3. Blend one more time, in smaller portions to emulsify the oil.

4. Chill in the refrigerator.

5. Place in bowls and garnish with chopped tomatoes, celery, green onions, cucumbers, red peppers, and avocados. Savor every nutritious bite!

Tomatoes are rich in Lycopene, a vital antioxidant that helps in the fight against cancerous cell formation as well as other kinds of health complications and diseases. Tomatoes are also an excellent source of fiber and Vitamins C & A!

What's your favorite way to eat tomatoes?

Class News
I can't help myself. Once again, I want to give a shout out about my new Line Dancing class. It's a BLAST! Class is so much fun that we forget we're actually exercising! We've got a delightful group of folks who are attending on a regular basis, with new people dropping in randomly. I had someone recently ask me if they would feel "left behind" since they didn't join us back in May. Absolutely not!

All levels are welcome and we do a lot of repetition and review. In fact, you'll find that the "regulars" will offer their support and encouragement. I teach new dances now and then to keep it varietal, and no advanced dances are ever done in this class. If you've been wanting to give it a try, drop-in at Margaret Todd Center on any upcoming Thursday, 12:35 - 1:15pm. Bring your smile and soft sole shoes! Call me at (707) 642-3603  if you have any questions.

A Laugh for Good Health
One day a little girl was sitting and watching her mother do the dishes at the kitchen sink. She suddenly noticed that her mother had several strands of white hair sticking out in contrast on her brunette head.
She looked at her mother and inquisitively asked, "Why are some of your hairs white, Mom?"
Her mother replied, "Well, every time that you do something wrong and make me cry or unhappy, one of my hairs turns white."
The little girl thought about this revelation for a while and then said, "Mommy, how come ALL of grandma's hairs are white?"

 Success Story

"Four years ago, I was going through a bad time in my life with the loss of my parents. I made the decision to join Jeanette's exercise program. It has helped me both psychologically and physically. She teaches a positive attitude and good "self-talk." She encourages us to do our best to keep our bodies flexible and strong. I feel the classes have helped me to heal, and to stay healthy. I was amazed that I lowered my glucose level. Her guided relaxation at the end is fantastic-a retreat unlike any other!"~Karen Nouchi, age 60, San Rafael, CA
