Hey Sister,
Since deciding to do the detox, it's amazing how my mindset has already begun to shift. Once you make up your mind to do something, God will partner with you—He's just waiting for you to take that first step.
Anyway, just by making the decision to do the detox, I've started cleaning up my diet but my husband caught me mindlessly about to eat a marshmallow and in the most loving (yet petrified) way said, "Do you really want to eat that?"
I felt like the cat that ate the canary 😳. It made no sense why I would put that in my mouth. It was mindless and just habitual and then the Holy Spirit reminded me of the 'Apple Test.'
It goes like this:
The next time you have a craving for something, PAUSE and ask yourself. “Would you eat an apple (or vegetable)?” If the answer is ‘yes’, then go ahead and eat the apple and see if it satisfies you. If your answer is ‘no’, an apple would not satisfy you, then your hunger is emotional.
If you answered ‘no’, an apple would not satisfy you, then you will want to identify what the underlying feeling is. It’s usually one of the following: overwhelmed, lonely, frustrated, sad, angry, lonely, bored, or tired.
Guess what, I ate an apple and I was satisfied! It was real hunger and not emotional.
But it took that second to tune-in and pay attention to my feelings to understand what was really going on.
Too often we can't distinguish emotional eating from real hunger so this is a simple way you can check.
Try it the next time you're about to eat mindlessly, or you have a craving, take the apple test.
Give it a try and be sure to let me know if it worked for you.
Here's to our sugar-free and spirit-filled lives!
