Next Issue: Successful Stealth Job Search
Eighty-six percent of employers view candidates who do not
send thank you notes as clearly not good at "follow through" -- which is a big negative. But fewer than half of job candidates send thank you notes after their job interviews.
Â
Regardless of how the interview happened -- in person, over the telephone, at lunch, or via an online video -- a prompt thank you note, sent separately to each interviewer, is appropriate. In this article, Job Interviewing Expert Laura DeCarlo shares the value and methods available plus creative options that may be used very cautiously.

Options
Surveys by both CareerBuilder and Accountemps have
indicated that an emailed thank you note is acceptable to most employers in the USA. A major benefit of emailed thank you notes is that they can be sent -- and received -- very quickly.
Â
Good thank you notes demonstrate the high quality of your work, and all the characteristics you may claim, like: attention to detail, ability to communicate, comfort with technology, and knowledge about the job and the employer. In this article, Job-Hunt's editor Susan P. Joyce shares samples messages to help you write your best messages
The interviews went really well! You liked all (or most)
of the people you met there, and you feel that they liked you, too. But, in the end, they decided to hire someone else, not you. You may have been the number 2 or number 3 candidate. Rats!
Â
If you REALLY liked the people and the organization, try turning that rejection letter on its head! Convert it into an opportunity. Maybe. Ask yourself: Would I want to be considered when another opportunity opens there? If the answer is "yes," proceed with this thank you.
Take great care with these thank you notes. Even though
they are email, they are important examples of the quality of your work, your follow up skills, and your expertise sending effective email. All of those are important points to make with a potential employer.
Â
The DO's and DON'Ts in this article cover timing, the device used, the best email account to use, the appropriate email subject, plus the best style, length, content, and closing for successful thank you email messages.
