In our FOID application case, Bradley V. Kelly, we have been denied our Preliminary Injunction.  We have a couple of actions we can take and we are weighing our options at this time.  In our second FOID appeal case, Thomas v. Kelly, the judge denied a motion to dismiss brought by the State.  We will be moving forward on this case.  Other cases are waiting at this moment.  I will let you know as soon as something happens.

My weekly ammo search on the internet and various other places showed a slight drop in prices again this week.  9mm is in great demand and some places are still demanding extraordinary prices.  I did find some under 50 cents per round.  Not great, but better.

The NRA Competitive Shooting Division has published the NRA National Championship Matches for 2021.  All of the National Matches are located at the first-class facilities of Camp Atterbury, outside Edinburgh, Indiana.  The NRA offers a wide range of competitions.  Here is the list by dates: July 6 - Smallbore Precision; July 11 - Smallbore Prone; July 22 – Pistol and F-Class mid-range; July 26 - F-Class long range; August 1 – Fullbore; August 8 - Mid-range; August 15 - Long range; August 22 - Highpower. 

HB 562 has passed both chambers.  Yesterday, Wednesday June 16, HB 562 passed the Illinois House 75-40-1.  The ISRA was neutral on this bill.  There were two bills in the General Assembly, HB 562 and HB 1091.  HB 562 wasn’t perfect, nothing in the General Assembly ever is.  HB 1091 was absolutely terrible. Here are the links to the analysis of both bills: HB 562; HB 1091.  Gun owners need to hear the truth and the truth is we were going to get one of these bills.  I know many of you think we can just say “No”, but that isn’t how it works in real life and the Illinois General Assembly in particular.

The fact is that there are some good things in HB 562.  The worst part of HB 562 is the private transfer provisions.  That part of HB 562 does not go into effect until January 1, 2024.  There is time to work on that section.  If you listened to the closing remarks of Representative Denyse Stoneback in the Judiciary Committee hearing, she told everyone where the anti-gunners want to go, which includes mandatory fingerprints for FOID cards, increased fees on FOID cards, and only be able to apply for a FOID card at a police station.  HB 1091 gave the anti-gun side two out of their three goals.  HB 1091 had to be stopped.  HB 562 stopped HB 1091.

Like it or not, the FOID card system is the law of the land.  There are thousands of people waiting to get their new or renewed FOID cards.  One of the short-term goals of the ISRA is to do what we can to get these FOID cards into the hands of law-abiding citizens.  To not do so would make us complicit with the anti-gun side.  The long term goal of the ISRA is to get rid of the FOID card.

Tidbits:
June 17, 1775 - The Battle of Bunker Hill takes place.  The hill was really Breed’s Hill just below Bunker Hill.  The American Patriots had built several redoubts (temporary fortifications) and waited for the British.  British General Gage was an arrogant man who decided to take on the American Patriots head on and humiliate them.  Gage marched his 2400 troops directly up the hill.  American General William Prescott told his men “Don’t fire until you see the whites of their eyes”.  When the British were about 40 yards away the Patriots fired, repelling the British in disarray.  The British reformed and attacked again with the same result.  By this time, the Americans were low on ammunition.  The British attacked again and fighting became hand to hand.  Finally, the Americans were forced to retreat.  There were 370 Americans killed and a 1000 British.  Gage had won the battle but he never again tried to take on the American Patriots head on.

June 17, 1885 - The Statue of Liberty arrives in New York.  It arrived in 200 cases and was 350 pieces.
It weighed 450,000 pounds.

June 18, 1812 - The War of 1812 begins.  The British never accepted the results of the Revolutionary War.  The British kept pressing United States seamen into the British Navy and inciting Indians along the frontier between the United States and Canada.  A faction in the United States Congress known as the “War Hawks” wanted to settle the score.  They also thought if they could kick the British out to the Northern Hemisphere, they could make Canada part of the United States.  On June 18, 1812, Congress declared war on the British.  The British invaded the United States and burned the White House.  The soldiers who served in the War of 1812 never got all that was owed them.  Many of them received compensation in the form of land in western Illinois.

June 20, 1782 - The Great Seal of the United States is adopted.

June 20, 1975 - The movie “Jaws” is released.  It was made on a 12-million-dollar budget and became the highest grossing film made, up until that time.  A young 27-year-old Director by the name of Steven Spielberg made the film.

June 20, 2021 - The First Day of Summer.

June 21, 1788 - The United States Constitution is ratified.   The Bill of Rights would come later.
