State of the Energy Union 2021: Renewables overtake fossil fuels as the EU's main power source
The Commission adopted its State of the
Energy Union Reports for 2021, taking stock of the progress that the EU is making in delivering the clean energy transition, nearly two years after the launch of the European Green Deal. While there are a number of encouraging trends, greater efforts will be required to reach the 2030 goal of cutting net emissions by at least 55% and achieving climate neutrality by 2050. Read more

Bordeaux and Valencia named European Capitals of Smart Tourism 2022
Bordeaux (France) and Valencia (Spain) have been selected as the winners of the EU’s 2022 European Capital of Smart Tourism competition, following a European Jury meeting in Brussels on 26 Oct 2021. EU plans single database to certify carbon content of hydrogen, low-carbon fuels
The carbon certification of hydrogen production – currently 96% reliant on fossil fuels – is seen as crucial to introduce some transparency and traceability in the emerging EU market for low-carbon fuels. To achieve this, the Commission is planning an EU-wide database, which is due to be unveiled in Dec 2021 as part of a package of EU laws aimed at decarbonising the gas sector. Read more

Prime minister Boris Johnson outlined an addition to the country's building regulations which will call for new homes and non-residential properties such as supermarkets and workplaces, as well as substantially refurbished properties

The Erasmus+ i2SustainIT (Impact Incubator for Nurturing Sustainability) project – coordinated by
EPN Consulting – held its 2nd Training Course from 15 to 19 November 2021 in Brussels (Belgium) and was hosted by our Belgian project partner Creative District. The course was on on “Impact Investment & Sustainability” and was attended by 30 delegates from the UK, Belgium, Bulgaria and Greece.

Impact Metrics is a defined system or standard of measurement to track the progress of change by your organization. In the impact space, there are standard metrics and custom metrics. Standards are written by research and evaluation organizations and generally exist around focus areas or organization type. Custom metrics are created by an organization and are designed around their use case.
A well-designed impact metrics focus on continuous learning and improvement of key outcomes. A good practitioner will design a holistic approach to understand multiple impact dimensions. Read more
