Joey DeFrancesco Plays JodyJazz
Joey DeFrancesco is generally regarded as the finest Hammond B3 Organ player of his generation in Jazz. He has released more than 30 recordings as a leader and has recorded and/or toured with the likes of Miles Davis, Jimmy Smith, Ray Charles, Van Morrison, Diana
Krall, Nancy Wilson, George Benson, James Moody, John Scofield, Bobby Hutcherson, Jimmy Cobb, John McLaughlin, Larry Coryell, David Sanborn and many more. He is a four time Grammy® Award-nominee, has received countless Jazz awards and accolades from around the world and was inducted into the inaugural Hammond Organ Hall of Fame in 2014. But what many people do not know is that his virtuosic talents extend beyond the Hammond organ alone, Joey is also a monster on several other instruments
including trumpet and saxophone.
With the COVID pandemic quashing his normally packed touring schedule (like so many other musicians), Joey put the extra time at home to good use and turned his attention to shedding the saxophone. This included experimenting with a lot of different mouthpieces which lead him to JodyJazz. After checking out several different JodyJazz models, Joey became converted very quickly and
has since become a full on JodyJazz evangelist!
“Vintage mouthpieces have their mystique, but they’re a big gamble especially for the price. And in fact it’s very difficult to find a good one, and that’s just frustrating,” says Joey. “JodyJazz mouthpieces are simply the best saxophone mouthpieces in the world. Everyone one you play blows flawlessly. Whatever sound you have in your mind can come through. Although the GIANT Tenor is my go to,
I really dig them all. And they definitely will give you that fun, inspiring, musical, and spiritual trip. Naturally this makes complete sense, because Jody himself represents what that’s all about!”
We’re very proud to have Joey playing our mouthpieces! Joey is currently finishing up his newest recording on which he is heavily featured playing Tenor and his new GIANT mouthpiece. Keep an eye/ear out for this new release on Mack Avenue Records this summer. We can’t wait to hear it!
Rousseau Award & Review - The Saxophonist
The Rousseau Classic NC Alto NC4 model has been named the “2020 Classical Mouthpiece of the Year” by The Saxophonist Magazine.
“We are thrilled and humbled by this unexpected award from The Saxophonist Magazine,” said Jody, President & Founder of JodyJazz Inc and now owner of Rousseau Mouthpieces. “We feel that the Rousseau mouthpieces and especially the Classic NC Series should be tried by all
serious saxophonists and students alike. The Classic NC Alto NC4 model in particular has a special magic to it and it is truly great to have this affirmation from such a respected authority as “The Saxophonist Magazine.”
Paul Harr, the Editor of The Saxophonist Magazine recently reviewed the Rousseau mouthpieces.
Here are some of the highlights from the written review:
“From the moment I opened the package, I knew these mouthpieces would be different from the previous models. Rousseau’s packaging is finally fitting of the man who has done so much for the saxophone. Sporting Rousseau’s classic image and signature, these mouthpieces are now sending a message to the marketplace.”
“One look at the table and rails shows a massive improvement in the refinement of the production line. I measured every mouthpiece using gauges and a jeweler’s glass. Not one facing was misshapen or uneven, and every table was perfectly flat.”
“The updated NC4 is a real treat to play.…. a wonderfully free blowing, colorful, and flexible classical mouthpiece. The new Rousseau mouthpieces are some of the cleanest mouthpieces concerning construction, and finishing that I have ever seen.
Under the JodyJazz corporation wing, these mouthpieces have greater consistency, quality, and viability in today's market. You owe it to yourself to try them out!”

We are excited to introduce the new Chedeville Elite Series Bass Clarinet mouthpiece. This is the first Bass Clarinet model to be offered in the all new Chedeville range of mouthpieces. The Chedeville Elite Bass Clarinet Mouthpiece creates a warm beautiful tone with excellent control and intonation. “When I was a teenager, I dreamt that I was soloing on bass clarinet and soaring over the orchestra,” says Jody. “That dream has stayed with me to this day. With this new mouthpiece, I can taste the dream. It gives me the warmth to blend while having the ability to soar effortlessly.”
Originally relaunched in 2019 after the acquisition of Chedeville by JodyJazz Inc, the new Chedeville range has rapidly become the choice of many of the world’s top performers such as acclaimed international clarinet soloist Milan Rericha. The new Chedeville Elite Bass Clarinet
mouthpiece, like all Chedeville mouthpieces are manufactured by JodyJazz in their dedicated mouthpiece factory in Savannah, GA.
No expense has been spared in the redevelopment of the Chedeville range. Our proprietary and more expensive ‘Chedeville Rubber’ is a more pure rod ebonite that recreates the great rod rubber of Pre-World War II legendary Chedeville mouthpieces. All the mouthpieces
in the range made from this proprietary hard rubber bear the ‘CHR’ mark. So if you don’t see the symbol CHR on the mouthpiece, it’s not made from genuine ‘Chedeville Rubber’!
The new range of Chedeville mouthpieces are manufactured from beginning to end at the JodyJazz factory in Savannah, GA using state of the art CNC machines and expert mouthpiece artisans on the crucial and indispensable handwork. The company has made consistency it’s number one priority and as a result has instituted the most extensive series of mandatory measurements and play testing in
the industry.

Dr. Ray Smith on his JodyJazz mouthpieces:
“After so many years of playing other mouthpieces, it is amazing to me that the JodyJazz Mouthpieces play with such a huge, full sound and yet are so responsive and easy to play. The mouthpieces have given me a whole new zest for playing, and I can hardly put the horn down once I get started. I play the DV Series on all 4 saxophones; Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bari. They work great and
it really feels good to have all the mouthpieces so well-matched as I go back and forth between them. Thanks for making such tremendous mouthpieces. These are the best mouthpieces I have ever played."
JodyJazz Mouthpieces played: DV Soprano 7*, DV Alto 7, DV Tenor 8*, DV Baritone 8
Dr. Ray Smith on his Rousseau mouthpieces:
“I love my Rousseau mouthpieces because of the clear tone, excellent response—especially in the extreme registers, and the smoothness and quietness—not a lot of extra noise.”
Rousseau Mouthpieces played: Classic NC Soprano NC3, Classic NC Alto NC4, Classic NC Tenor NC5, Classic NC Baritone NC4
Dr. Ray Smith on his Chedeville mouthpieces:
“I enjoy playing the Chedeville clarinet mouthpiece very much. It has a crystal clear tone and responds nicely. I prefer the Umbra model, and either the F0 or F1 play well. I am playing the F1 model. It is wonderful that Jody Espina has resurrected this vintage legendary clarinet mouthpiece.”
Chedeville Mouthpieces played: Chedeville Umbra Clarinet F1
