This is the beauty of print on demand.
But is it really that simple?
Can I just create a design on a mug, list it somewhere, and have it sell for me repeatedly while another company creates and ships it?
If only, right?
The truth is some things need to be put in place before any revenue can be generated from a print-on-demand product. The secret is actually in the phrase “print on demand”… it is a product created (or printed) as customers want. It can’t
just be “print”. There has to be a demand for it… and that is the secret… finding the demand and using that to create a product that meets it.
You likely know that mugs aren’t the only print-on-demand type product. We’ve all seen the t-shirts (merch anyone?), stickers, tote backs, pens, mouse-pads (are those even a thing still?), and more. My favorite print-on-demand product is books. Not just any books - but a low-content book that fills a gap in the
market. Maybe it’s a prompted nature journal for kids, a coffee roasting tracker, a math workbook, or a book of challenges for couples. The possibilities are endless! And once you know how to find the gaps in the market, the possibilities are lucrative.
I talk a lot about Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP). Is it everything? Of course not. BUT, it is one of the most powerful opportunities to generate significant income that most don’t know about. Books are
powerful! They provide credibility to a brand or influencer. They help people grow. Books spark imagination and provide written work that can be passed down for generations. And print-on-demand, paperback books, like those KDP offers, provide an opportunity to generate passive income streams.
It used to be a volume game. The more books you published, the more you could learn about your audience and serve them better… but not
anymore.
There are five prominent ways to generate income with KDP:
1. Bundle a low-content book with another product already selling.
2. Partnering with influencers and business owners to create a book that serves their audience
3.
Harnessing Amazon’s traffic to build an email list and brand.
4. Leverage the interior manuscript PDF and sell it on other platforms as a printable
5. Print on demand - create once and let it sell strategies
I’ve touched on all of these, and while my favorite strategy is partnering
with business owners to create a book that serves their audience… most of you guys are interested in creating it once and letting it work for you over and over again.
