Export Simulation Results in New Format
Ever had a request to share your COMSOL simulation results with someone who doesn’t have a copy of COMSOL?

COMSOL Multiphysics v5.2a gives you the ability to export simulation results in the VTK file format.  This file format can be opened and visualized in the free data analysis and visualization software, Paraview.  Visit www.paraview.org to read about this software and to download.

This new feature can be of use to those who would like to share simulation results with people who do not own a COMSOL license but would like to interactively interrogate and post-process the results of a COMSOL analysis.

To do this, add your data set to the export list by right-clicking on it and selecting “Add Data to Export”.  (Note:  You may wish to reconstitute any symmetry assumptions using Mirror, Revolution and/or Sector symmetry data sets before exporting.)  See below.

Then, in the Settings window for the Export decide on the variable(s) you would like to export.  Change the “Save as type” drop down menu to Unstructured VTK File (*.vtu) and decide on a file name.  Then, click Export.  You now have a vtk file for opening and post-processing in Paraview.  See below.

And then...

And voila...

We see this as a very valuable capability, because many of our clients do not have copies of COMSOL themselves but would like to see 3D results. Now they can.

More to come...
