Managing food allergies for people attending camps can be very challenging. The National Allergy Council, a partnership between Allergy & Anaphylaxis Australia and the Australasian Society of Clinical Immunology and Allergy (the peak national patient support and medical organisations for allergy), conducts camps specifically for children and young adults with severe allergies, predominantly food allergies. The Allergy 250K youth camps bring together children aged 10-18 years of age that are still at school, peer mentors and health professional volunteers to support young people living with severe allergies.

Through the conducting of these camps, the National Allergy Council has learned first-hand the challenges associated with providing appropriate meals for people with food allergies on camp. With every camp, we have learned something new from the camp food service providers and also helped them in how they manage food allergies. This has resulted in the National Allergy Council creating free online training along with other useful tools to help food service providers in the camp setting.

In this session, we aim to share our experiences of managing food allergies in the camp setting.
