Yesterday, ACA Membership Manager, Dwight Hulme, stepped into the role of tour guide for the Australian Standards: SF-047 Standards Technical Committee (Artificial Climbing Structures and Challenge Course). The committee are currently developing a new standard for Flying Foxes and Challenge Ropes Courses. The group
visited five different sites with different styles of ropes courses, helping guide the Standards Australia Working Group to make sure the new Australian Standard incorporates ropes courses of all kinds. The tour included a visit to ACA Member, Camp Manyung, to see what they have been doing to incorporate greater universal design elements to increase accessibility for people living with disability. This year's International Camp Directors Course is shaping up with good participation numbers already, there are still a couple of places available should you or your staff be wishing to
join us on the Gold Coast Sunday 2nd - Wednesday 5th of June. We're also opening expressions of interest to join the ICDC Facilitation team, keep reading below to find out more. A reminder to our Members in South Australia, we're hosting a Member Morning Tea on the 23rd of May - registrations can be made here. View other upcoming events here.
Kind Regards, The ACA Team

ACA - People Outdoors Update
The Australian Camps Association is a Registered NDIS Service Provider. We have been providing camps for kids, teens and adults living with disability for more than 30 years via our People Outdoors program. This year we have expanded our program to service New South Wales and Queensland. Before the end of financial year we have a couple of positions available on a number of our camps and we would appreciate it if you could please help us spread the word about this program by sharing this Facebook
post. Since January, we've visited seven ACA Member sites to host our program. If you are accredited with the Quality Tourism Framework - Camps and Activity Provider accreditation, and are interested in hosting our program, we'd love to speak with you as we're currently
looking toward dates in 2025. Due to the nature of our program and specialised needs of our participants, we do have a few specific requirements for venues so please email [email protected] if you have some weekend (Fri-Sun) or school holiday (Tues-Fri) availability in 2025.

QLD Safety Law Update: Quad Bikes
Source: Workplace Health and Safety Queensland "New laws to protect the health and safety of workers while operating or being a passenger on a quad bike in a workplace have commenced in Queensland. The Work Health and Safety (Quad
Bikes) Amendment Regulation 2024 sees the introduction of age restrictions, passenger restrictions and mandates helmets for quad bikes used in workplaces..." "...The new legislation mandates that adult-sized quad bikes in workplaces must only be used by someone 16 years or above (or in accordance with age
advice by the manufacturer). This means that children are not allowed on adult-sized quad bikes and can only ride on age-appropriate quad bikes in workplaces. Passenger restrictions will mean a quad bike operator cannot carry a passenger unless the bike is designed to, and the passenger must meet manufacturer
age specifications, or be 16 or older. All riders of quad bikes must wear a fitted and fastened helmet. The legislation
affects quad bike use in a workplace setting and is not relevant to recreational use (i.e.in a private residential setting for leisure)..."

Member Morning Tea - South Australia
|
23 May 2024 | 9:30am (ACST) | Camp Finniss ACA Member Morning Teas provide a wonderful opportunity for you and your staff to meet other Members. The Norm Howard Outdoor Education Centre (Camp Finniss) rests on Ngarrindjeri Country alongside the Finniss River, in South Australia’s Lower Lakes region. Affectionately known as Finniss Campsite by the students of St Peter’s College, the school has owned and operated the campus for over 35 years. During this time, many
young hands have revegetated the 48 acres from paddock to native bushland. In addition to waterfront access for aquatic activities, 80 guests utilise the playing field, gymnasium, bike riding track and various bush shelters across the property. Utilised for outdoor education, youth ministry and school sporting retreats, the Norm Howard Outdoor Education Centre serves as a hub for experiential learning, personal challenge, spiritual development and growth of community. Outside of these programs,
it is available for other groups to enjoy. We'll update you on the ACA News, you'll have the opportunity to have a tour of the site and you'll meet (or catch up with) other members. Event Location: Camp Finniss, 408 Finniss-Clayton Road, Finniss South Australia 5255
