2022 Scholarship program. Now taking applications.

Dear clients, colleagues, and friends,

I believe:

If you have a story to tell...
If you have a message to share...
If you want to write and publish a book that will make a difference in readers' lives...

Then you should be able to do so, without any financial barriers standing in the way.

That is why my company — Get It Done — offers a scholarship program.

We're proud to offer 30 scholarships in 2022 totaling nearly $30,000 in funding.

As a scholarship recipient, you get to enroll in The Tiny Book Course at no cost.

Tuition is normally $995. Scholarship recipients take the course and pay $0.

You receive the full course experience (exactly the same as every other participant), including writing coaching, feedback on your manuscript, and a Get It Done Box (snail mail) shipped to you.

Upon completing the course, you have a beautiful book that you can hold in your hands.

If you want to write a book but have limited financial resources at this time, we invite you to apply for a scholarship.

Scholarship Criteria

If you need a scholarship, for any reason, we encourage you to apply.

In the spirit of equity, we give first priority to scholarship applicants who belong to the following communities:

Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC)
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer (and other members of the LGBTQIA+ community)
Veterans
First responders
Healthcare workers
Preschool and K-12 teachers
People living with disabilities
People who have experienced significant financial hardship during the pandemic
Other communities that are underserved or historically excluded

Scholarship Timeline

Applications open: April 20, 2022
Applications close: June 20, 2022
Recipients will be notified no later than: July 14, 2022
Non-recipients will be notified no later than: July 21, 2022
The Tiny Book Course begins: August 2022 (Orientation day is August 8, first day of the course is August 15)

In Conclusion

The top 5 publishers in the world are Hachette, HarperCollins, Macmillan, Penguin Random House, and Simon & Schuster. All 5 companies are led by a CEO who is a white man.

Further, as reported in The New York Times, 85% of employees who work at top publishers — specifically, the people in charge of acquiring books and deciding which authors will be offered a book deal — are white.

I want to see a world where the publishing industry looks different from the way it is now.

My hope is that this scholarship program helps — in some way, big or small — to create this new reality. New books on the shelves. New stories that readers haven't seen before. New leaders in the industry. Small actions can lead to a big ripple effect.

PPS. I know there's somebody reading this email who is thinking, "I would love to get a scholarship...but...they will never pick me. It's probably a waste of time." If that's you, go apply right now. Flex your courage muscles and go for it.
