Sandro Chia was born in Florence in 1946, a place of birth which he feels has given him a "healthy artistic imperialism." Today he lives between Miami, Rome and his Castello Romitorio wine-making estate in Montalcino. He doesn't understand why human beings are still physically dying, a subject much on his mind as he considers the passing of Cy Twombly and Lucian Freud.
