Happy Sunday again to you and yours again !
Today I'm taking you down memory lane!
But then again, that's only if you are familiar with the process.
If not though, not only is this great education (and training 😃) you'll also get a deeper appreciation for the work!
What am I talking about?
Oh yes, it is the world-famous Jamaican black castor oil (JBCO)!
You might have remember this video on my YouTube channel, posted sometime ago? Well Sher has broken down the process in ten (10) simple steps for anyone who is interested in making their own JBCO.
And yup, that's the featured article for this week!
But remember that I have several other new and insightful content on the website via the blog, so please stop by and check them out.
And now, the...
You know bamboo right? And that we have lots of it in Jamaica?
Well now there is a new thrust for bamboo furniture?
But Does Bamboo Furniture Last?
Is Bamboo Really A Good Material For Furniture?
In this special episode, I visited the original bamboo factory, Jamaica's first and only bamboo factory, located in Caymanas, St. Catherine.
I had a captivating discussion with its CEO, Mr. John Hamilton, who in addition to gifting us a tour of his labour of love, shared some astounding and fascinating facts about bamboo and bamboo furniture!
Did you know for example that Bamboo is stronger than steel in regards to the tensile strength! Steel has a tensile strength of 23,000 pounds per square inch but bamboo surpasses steel with a noticeable lead at 28,000 pounds!
You'll really enjoy this!
Here is the video, embedded below.
Please be sure to LIKE and comment on this awesome video.
And if you found it insightful, please SHARE it with a friend or family member, the more the merrier!
Featured Jamaican Product
In the video above, Mr. Hamilton, who is a Caucasian Jamaican, when asked my signature interview question, 'what makes Jamaica special?'.
His response was, 'its diversity'!
And that diversity he spoke of included the diversity of its people - in particular.
Even though the majority of Jamaicans are of African descent, we hold true to our motto, 'out of many, one people'; We have all kinds of shades, cultures and heritage here!
And so today I celebrate that, Jamaica's diversity!
You remember Uncle Bunn from the video last week right? That's the blind man who I featured along with his wife last week. If you missed that video you can still find it here.
Anyway, long story short, he reached out to me during the week saying someone gave him a small donation and he wanted to send a little something from it to me since I was the one who featured him!
I was truly touched, but respectfully said 'no', there is no way I could have accepted that from him after his courtesy and willingness in the first place, but also considering is disability.
I'm just saying that to say, we still have so many persons we a good heart and many are not acknowledged. So today I salute (my favourite word) Uncle Bunn for his gesture.
Did you know...
... that the parish of Manchester is Jamaica's youngest parish?
It was created on December 13, 1814, from the surrounding parishes of St. Elizabeth, Clarendon and Vere, which were then separate parishes.
This too, is yet another interesting fact from my 101 Intriguing Facts About Jamaica book.
You might have noticed that I included an additional link in my newsletter intro right? That's the one to my buy me a coffee page.
What's with that?
Well, over the years, I've had onezy, twozy persons reaching out to me, and in addition to acknowledging my efforts, some actually asked for a way to make a small contribution to me.
In many cases they'd say they'll buy me a drink.
I typically direct them to my PayPal.
But this seems way better!
And while it is not quite 'a drink', it came in just handy based on a friendly recommendation I got!
So going forward, in addition to my Patreon page, you'll also see that link and actually, supporters to both platforms are invited in my exclusive private community group called JamHearts.
So anyways, that's it for today, until next week, please #KeepSafeAndSane
Note: If you missed any of these juicy newsletter editions in the past, you can find them in our nicely arranged archives.
