Hey ,
Happy Sunday my friend!
Its funny that on this day, August 1, which is officially Emancipation (freedom) day, I'm talking about curfew hours, right?
But such are the times, it is one of those things we have to sacrifice now for the greater freedom later - I hope.
And please share, it might come in handy for family members or friends, especially those who might be travelling.
And now the Emancipation 'story'!
Do you know why we celebrate emancipation holiday in Jamaica?
Honestly, do you know why?
Here's the full story: https://www.my-island-jamaica.com/why-is-emancipation-day-celebrated-in-jamaica.html
And yes, please share this too!
By the way, just before we jump into the video for this week, I want to mention the special Q&A feature again, I sent it in a mid-week post to you earlier.
Apparently there was a bug in the system and a number of the questions (posted before Friday evening) did not come over to me, but the web host programmers have fixed it.
So if you posted yours before Friday afternoon, please consider re-submitting it here: https://www.my-island-jamaica.com/question.html#INV . I promise we'll jump on it asap!
I'm looking forward to seeing yours.
And now...
Last week we featured another like you, another ardent subscriber, for my YouTube SPOTLIGHT series, Rosemary Dawn Allison - A Jamaican, British, Canadian, now living in ITALY.
It was quite intriguing soaking up all the learning from her.
If you missed it you can take a look at it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KDa3KnO0DvA&pp=sAQA

Its interesting how out of bad comes good right?
And the experience at the Fort Charlotte where we did the fishing video above reminded me.
If you remember the history of Jamaica, you know how much fighting took place here right?
And the ruins of the forts here are testament to that, certainly to the latter wars between the British and others (invading forces) who were a constant threat after they (British) defeated the Spanish.
So today I'll highlight them!
Actually 23 of the most popular ones, many of which are a must-see for visitors to Jamaica.
Here they are https://www.my-island-jamaica.com/forts_in_jamaica.html

Special shout out to my friend Ms James, and her family again for partnering with me again.
And although we knew each other, and had a great relationship from past work place associations, these videos have brought us even closer as I've gotten to meet and mingle with her entire family.
And so today, I salute her and her family for the love and devotion, not just taking part in the videos, but in many cases, provided ideas for content.
Thank you my friend.
Did you know...
... that Jamaica is the first English-speaking Caribbean country to gain Independence from their colonial powers?
This was on August 6, 1962 from Britain.
This too, is yet another interesting fact from my 101 Intriguing Facts About Jamaica book.
By this time next week, both Emancipation and Independence will be history and so I'm grabbing the opportunity now to share this bit of information with you about Jamaica's independence as well.
It is titled 'How did Jamaica can independence'.
