Happy Sunday !!!
I hope all is well on your side my friend.
Yes, I do have a story for you today, a true, honest story!
And this time it is from the mouth, heart and soul of a female American living in Jamaica!
I won't say much except to say, whatever you do, please don't miss it.
Here is the link to the article:
And here (below) is the live video interview on YouTube (Just press PLAY)
And Cheri, by the way, was the very first guest on my new SPOTLIGHT YouTube Live feature!
Each week, on Wednesday at about noon, I'll be shining the spotlight on an interesting Jamaican personality or someone, like you, who is a 'Jamaica enthusiast'.
And I do have a very important personality this week (Wednesday) for you.
Hint: Its someone like you, one of my most ardent subscribers!
So if you're not yet a subscriber to my YouTube channel you can do so here and hit the BELL notification, that will ensure that you are notified when I got LIVE.
And believe it or not, for the first time here, I have two videos!
Yes, they were that good!
The second one?
Well on my way from Mandeville recently, I ran into a local artisan, Ms Joy, who makes traditional baskets; she calls it the 'honey comb' method of basket weaving/making.
She talks about the materials she use, how hard is basket weaving and the future of basket weaving in Jamaica. And yes, I have it all on video!
And this is the featured because it speaks to what I always call 'The Real Jamaica'.
Here's the video...
Please be sure to LIKE and drop a comment. If you appreciate it, please be sure to share it with someone, the more the merrier!
Featured Jamaican Product
As simple as it appears, believe me, this lady above (Ms Joy) inspired me.
I re-watched the video and I seem to see/ recognize something different each time.
But it also reminded me how assiduous and creative our people are.
And so today, I salute all the creators and artisans, especially those who do this manual.
These folks seems to carry the weight of Jamaica's heritage and culture on their backs, day in day out!
They are my featured 'product' today.
Today I send a friendly shout of to Ms. Bushay of the Institute Of Jamaica (IOJ) 's Junior Center.
We had a healthy discussion during the course of this week and I'm already looking forward to some possible collaborations soon.
I also learned later that the family is much closer that we thought!
Turned out that we share the same rural district!
And while we are tuning to the Olympics;
Did you know...
... that Jamaica has the prestigious honor of possessing the maximum success per capita of any country in the world?
Of source, track and field contributed largely to this.
This honor started in 1948 Olympics, when Dr Arthur Wint won the 400 meters.
This too, is yet another interesting fact from my 101 Intriguing Facts About Jamaica book.
Two quick things.
One: I've reopened our helpful and popular Q&A feature!
To date we have answered over 2000 questions on or about Jamaica, but this is just the beginning as we know there are several more questions out there.
So let me start with you !
We'll research provide you an answer asap.
I look forward to hearing from you.
And
