Hey ,
Happy Sunday to you and yours again my friend!

And so today, just before I share my featured article on the versatility of corn here in Jamaica, I'd like to highlight 7 of the articles with in, in respect and honor to the 7 heroes (and heroine) - and indeed all the thousand of others whose names have gone in antiquity.

Corn was a major crop planted by the Tainos, the first recorded inhabitants of Jamaica. And like them, corn forms an important part of our diet today. In fact, corn which the Tainos called maize, is so well utilized you may be surprised we have it in so many forms.

A great learning adventure, in this video, Mr. Samuels (Kenneth) and his wife (Joy) takes me on their turmeric farm here in Jamaica for an insightful tour.
Not only did I learn about how turmeric is planted, how it is harvested, cleaned, polished and packaged for export, I got the opportunity to see the process live in action!
And the bonus?
He introduced me to White Turmeric as well?
Have you ever heard of it?

Featured Jamaican Product
As we celebrate our heroes this week (and month) it dawned on me how special Marcus Mosiah Garvey, the first national hero of Jamaica, was.
Yes they are all honorable in their own ways, some paying the ultimate price with their lives.
But perhaps the most distinguished one in his time is arguably him, Marcus Garvey, based on his reach and influence on persons across the globe (You might have heard of his association with the Watchman newspaper and the UNIA organization).
During the past week, I got the prized opportunity to speak to a group of students at Glow Academy here in Montego Bay as part of their heritage week celebrations - and that was a bomb!
I enjoyed it fully and the kids absolutely loved the presentation!
The theme was Jamaican artifacts!
I also livestreamed aspects of the Montego Bay High School Heroes Day concert as well. I considered that my own contribution to the school's Jamaica heritage celebrations. It was a blessing🙏
So to both distinguished institutions I say thanks for the privilege to serve you.
Did you know...
... that Jamaica’s National Heroes Day, was established on October 20, 1969? It replaced the national holiday for the queen of England's birthday, which was discontinued.
Heroes Day is now celebrated on the third Monday in October each year.
This too, is yet another interesting fact from my 101 Intriguing Facts About Jamaica book.
The UK has lifted its travel advisory against Jamaica, essentially removing COVID-19-related restrictions based on the current assessment of risks associated with the pandemic.
And minister of Tourism, Edmund Bartlett says it is a major boost for Jamaica’s economic recovery.
Mr. Bartlett also noted that the news comes on the heels of a successful trip to the United States and Canada over the past two weeks where Jamaica secured commitments from cruise and airline partners regarding visitor arrivals.
I thought you might find it interesting...
Anyway, thanks again for your time, it has been a pleasure again.
