What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
I had a nightmare one night about losing track of time, I'd left my house to walk to work and suddenly I was stood in front of the office with a cold tickle running down my back. Upon waking I thought about the dream more and more and eventually that's where the idea for The Light stemmed from.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
Now this is a tough one, I think I've always wanted to write a character like Molly and the rest of the world just fell into place around her. Other than Oscar. I always knew Oscar was important.

Knowledge of The Light started around fifty years ago.
That's when they started stealing daylight from us. That's when the gaps in memories became too obvious.
You'd be walking along minding your own business and the next thing; the very next thing you knew – you would be gasping for breath as your legs shook and twenty minutes had passed that you couldn't possibly account for. You'd look around and realise that everybody around you felt exactly the same; you'd all lost track of time.
To begin with time would only be lost to a room full of people but eventually whole blocks of flats began to experience these 'blackouts' – blinded by light as their time started up again – and no one, not a single resident, could recall a moment or even a subconscious memory of a moment. It was as if somebody had reached into all of our brains and momentarily shut them down.
As each month passed these moments began to grow in volume until we were losing collective hours of our days. There was no consistency in the timings; they didn't occur regularly, there was no way to predict them and they were finished before you'd even known they'd begun.
