Built in 1832 to link the river Yonne and the river Saone, the Burgundy canal is 242km long, with 189 locks! Fortunately, most of our cruises are limited to about 50 locks in one week.

Dating from 1784, the canal was initially used to float timber from the Morvan forest to Paris for building. There are 110 locks along it's total length of 180km.

Built in 1827, the Canal was intended to replace usage of the Loire, prone to seasonal flooding and droughts. At
196km, it has just 37 locks, and boasts the magnificent Braire aqueduct.
