Elder Abuse Bytes New Years 2015 Edition
THE E-NEWSLETTER OF THE NATIONAL CENTER ON ELDER ABUSE
Happy New Year from the National Center on Elder Abuse!

We hope you had a great holiday season and are just as excited to start 2015 as we are.

This relaunch edition of Elder Abuse Bytes welcomes you into the new year from the NCEA’s new home at the Keck School of Medicine of USC.

We are grateful for the support demonstrated by our local and national partners during this transition and especially would like to thank our colleagues at the University of California, Irvine for their continued passion, diligence, good works, and friendship.

The NCEA will build upon a strong foundation, using the Elder Justice Roadmap as a strategic planning guide. Thus, our work is organized among four domains:

Education, Policy, Practice and Research.

The Elder Justice Roadmap, a stakeholder initiative to respond to an emerging health, justice, financial and social crisis, is an initiative funded by the U.S. Department of Justice with support from the Department of Health and Human Services.

Are you looking for an easy tool that outlines the report? The NCEA's newly published Fact Sheet: The Elder Justice Roadmap: A Call To Action is here to help! Understand the field's most urgent needs, recognize national groups already on the road and discover ways that you may be able to begin your journey.

Each edition of the Elder Abuse Bytes e-Newsletter will highlight one of the Roadmap domains.

We begin with the Education domain and feature a new resource.

New from the School of Social Work at San Diego State University is an introductory training course covering financial exploitation.  Funded by the Huguette Clark Family Fund for Protection of Elders, this concise curriculum is formatted as a game.  This innovative training tool will educate staff and the public about the different types of financial exploitation, help them better understand decision-making capacity, and help them appreciate the complexity of everyday cases.
