What the association principle can do for career

The association principle says that by the feelings we have for something will spill over to something else that is associated with the first thing even if it is unrelated!

Typical examples are politicians inviting celebrities or companies seeking a celebrity to be the official spokeperson for the product.

But you too can use the association principle to your advantage.

Here is a personal story to demonstrate this point.

I have read Robert Cialdini, famous author of the best-selling book Influence, for the first time maybe 15 years ago.

Cialdini writing style is extremely accessible.

This makes his work accessible to people of any horizon. From marketing, sales to people in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math).


On September 29, 2004 the MLB announced that the Montreal (my hometown) professional baseball team would be moved to Washington, DC and renamed the Nationals.

I happened to be on business trip in the Washington DC area at that time
and more specifically I was in a bar the evening that the news got reported in the medias.


I have been stunned by the association principle by having been offered
3-4 drinks by as much strangers that night because "I have given to them
my baseball team".


This event is over 10 years old but I still remember as that was I
really striking example of how powerful association can be.


Beauty of this principle it is:

you can apply it in your life everywhere, including at your job...

Is there a project that everyone talks about at your office. How about getting involved with it?

One of your boss idols is Steve Job. How about leaving around on your desk Steve Job biography and tell him some interesting anecdotes about his idol?


Cialdini is treated like a rock star among people in marketing and sales but unfortunately the majority of people outside this field think that his work is not for them.

It is for everyone.

Everyone needs to influence people surrounding them. Reading Influence 15 years ago changed my life. Its 6 principles can be applied by anyone in any circumstance (romantic,professional,etc...).

My association principle example purpose was to demonstrate exactly this point.

I know that Influence is the perfect book for you because

if you have wondered how you would negotiate a new contract, dominate your next job interview or get a higher salary or a new promotion, it will help you to find the answer...

You are at a crossroad now....

Either you do something to improve your situation and in a year from now when you have reached some new important milestones in your career, you see yourself reading this newsletter as the start of becoming a better you.

Or you just do nothing and not much will change neither. You will still have the same professional problems and deal with the same bullshit.
