Hi
You may recall that we talked a lot about the Stone Soup Conference last year. If not, then let me fill you in.
The Stone Soup Conference is an annual fundraising event put on by my friends at Lake Ridge Community Support Services. The LRCSS is a non-profit in Canada that serves children with Autism and related disabilities, and I believe this is their third event.
The 2022 event will be held on 10/21/2022, and it is already on track for being as successful as the 2021 conference (note: the event will be recorded and available for consumption afterwards, so if you're already tied up on 10/21, you'll be able to watch it later).
What I love about this event can be summed up in three thoughts: The Stone Soup Conference provides access to amazing speakers, at an amazing price, for an amazing cause.
Let's talk about each of these.
First, the speakers. The roster this year is kind of a who's-who of BOP favorites (or in the case of Drs. Gover and Higbee, BOP adjacent, IYKYK...). You can see who will be speaking and about what topics here, (or see below) but long story short, there's something there for everyone. Whether you are interested in Trauma-informed ABA, Compassionate treatment, food issues,
precision teaching, picture schedules, or supervision, the SSC has you covered.
Then there's the price. By using the discount code PODCAST, you'll get $20 off the already insanely inexpensive ticket. That breaks down to less than 8 bucks per CEU. I challenge readers to find a better price and value combination out there in a virtual conference.
Last, and most importantly, the cause. Once the costs of the event have been covered, all of the proceeds from the SSC will go towards scholarships for ABA services for individuals in the Lake Ridge community. I'm not an expert in the Canadian health care system, but I believe that funding for ABA services is quite different for my neighbors up north, and by quite different, I mean much less (and by extension, resulting in less access to
services). As such, your admission ticket to the conference will help fund services for children and families who will otherwise not be able to afford ABA.
If you're still with me in this email, thank you, and I hope I've made the case for supporting this excellent cause. If you have friends and colleagues whom you think would be into this, please forward this email to them.
In the near future, I'll start having some of these speakers on the podcast to provide a sneak peek on what they plan to talk about too.
All the best,
Matt
