Session 9 details, and more!

Hi

I hope you're having a great summer (or for listeners down under, winter I suppose). I sure am, but it 's going by really fast! I wanted to touch base to let you know about the next session of The Behavioral Observations Podcast, as well pass on some potentially interesting stuff.

With regard to the latter:

Some of you may already have seen this on my Facebook page (www.facebook.com/behavioralobservations), but my good friend from way back in the Auburn days, Dr. Erin Rasmussen, just secured a grant to study obesity and food scarcity in women, using concepts of behavioral economics and mindfulness. We talk a lot about applying behavior analytic principles for novel applications, and Erin is actually walking the walk, as it were. I'm going to do my best to get her on the show to talk about this in more detail. You can check out the news story on this here

Have you seen this yet? This Pavlok device evidently provides electric shocks to the wearer when they engage in off task behaviors. It was interesting, though not surprising, that the journalist started to react negatively when simply looking at, or feeling the weight of the device. I have my own thoughts on this device, but I'm actually more interested in how both the popular media as well as the non-behaviorally savvy public reacts to this.

On a different note, do you have interest in a Facebook group for the podcast? If so, let me know at [email protected]. I was thinking it could be a fun place to talk about the episodes, ponder follow up questions, and more generally, interact with each other. Again, let me know what you think.

Finally, the guest for Session 9 is Manny Rodriguez from ABA Technologies. The general topic for our conversation is the field of Organizational Behavior Management, but we end up going all over the map. I think you'll really enjoy this one.

I'm editing this episode right now and hope to get it out shortly, but in the meantime, if you have a second, it would be awesome if you went over to iTunes to leave a rating and review of the show. If you're not sure how to do that, YouTube is here to help

All the best,
Matt
