Hi
I'm going to be honest with you, despite working with dogs as a graduate student as well as having what I hope is a decent understanding of operant and respondent conditioning, I have done a poor job with doing any kind of basic obedience training with my dog Scout.
In fact, if
you were to visit my house, I'd likely be quite embarrassed as he would probably spend the first few minutes jumping up at you, barking, etc... until the excitement of having company wore off.
So it is with this in mind that I'm really excited to have Hannah Branigan from
Wonderpups Training on the show to give me some much needed advice on how to
get my canine under control.
Hannah has been training dogs and teaching people for over 12 years. She is also Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT) and a graduate of the Karen Pryor (yes,
that Karen Pryor) Academy for Animal Training and Behavior where she now serves on the faculty.
Hannah is also a
fellow podcaster! She hosts
Drinking from the Toilet, which is, in her own words, "a dog training podcast for serious behavior nerds."
While traveling recently, I had the opportunity to check out several of Hannah's podcast episodes, and came away quite impressed with her deep understanding not only of the
fundamental principles of behavior, but the ease with which she communicates these ideas to lay people.
As hinted at, I'll have many of my own questions, but I don't want to leave you out on this. So if you have a question about your 4-legged friend's behavior, simply respond to this email and I'll be sure to work it into the conversation.
All the
best,
Matt
