Hi
Luis enjoys working with difficult behaviors, “quirky” children (those often labeled gifted, ADHD, autism, Asperger’s), anxiety, and complex medical histories.
He was trained at the University of Nebraska, the University of Nebraska Medical Center (Munroe-Meyer Institute for Genetics and Rehabilitation), and at the Boys Town Center for Behavioral Health.
Although he jokes that he's not a "real Behavior Analyst," trust me, he's one of us. Don't believe me? Take a look at this set of values from
CABCH's website:
We're proud to say we’re not like most psychologists or therapists:
-
We don’t offer to fix your problems. We teach you the skills you need to find success.
-
We don’t do a lot of individual therapy with children, especially younger children. We work with families, because we know your children need you more than they will ever need us.
-
We don’t do a lot of long-term therapy. Most of our clients are done in ten sessions or fewer.
-
We don’t work from a “mental illness” model. We do provide diagnoses, but “mental illness” isn't a useful way to think about problems in living. Your child is not sick or broken
Luis spends a good bit of his time teaching parents to more effectively work with their children, and we plan on delving into all aspects of modern parenting (think helicopter parenting, pressure to over-achieve, anxiety/depression, teen years, etc...). I'm hoping to squeeze out a few Pat Friman stories from his time at Boys Town as well.
So if you're like me, and you have an inexhaustible supply of parenting challenges questions, simply respond to this email and I'll do my best to work them into this conversation. This is going to be a fun one, so let me know if you want to get in on the conversation.
All the best,
Matt
