Hi
What is a KPI you say?
Well I'm glad you asked. According to
KPI.org, it is defined as follows:
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are the critical (key) indicators of progress toward an intended result. KPIs provides a focus for strategic and operational improvement, create an analytical basis for decision making and help focus attention on what matters most. As Peter Drucker famously said, “What gets measured gets done.”
Managing with the use of KPIs includes setting targets (the desired level of performance) and tracking progress against that target. Managing with KPIs often means working to improve leading indicators that will later drive lagging benefits. Leading indicators are precursors of future success; lagging indicators show how successful the organization was at achieving results in the past.
From what Rebecca has shared with me, identifying, measuring, and analyzing KPI's can yield several benefits for practitioners and business owners, such as:
- Understanding the fiscal health of their organization
- Pinpointing areas for organizational training and education
- Refining current systems and processes
- Creating processes to help support the gap between where you are and where you want to be
Honestly, she sent me pages of notes already (literally!), so this is just scratching the surface. Lastly, understanding KPI's is not just for business owners. Rebecca will likely make the case that focusing on the right KPI's can help quantify treatment effects and staff performance.
So if you have questions, please let me know and I'll be sure to work them into our conversation.
Thanks!
Matt
