Hi
April has been a challenging month for many of us, but I hope this email finds you well! For me, I've only managed to publish two podcasts this month, but don't worry, I have quite a few in the can that I can't wait to share with you!
That doesn't mean that April hasn't been a busy month for me however, and I thought I'd send this email as a "round up" as it were, and share what I've been up to in the links below:
- Earlier this week, I replayed an older episode from the early days of the podcast. Way back in '16 or '17, I interviewed Dr. Wendy Machalicek, who at the time, was one of the few BA's investigating the use of telemedicine. I gave it a re-listen when quarantine struck and felt the information she provided stood the test of time. Click here to check it out.
- Speaking of telemedicine, The Journal of Behavioral Education just put out a two volume series on telemedicine. Here's the editorial, written by Drs. Mandy Rispoli and Wendy Machalicek.
- Thanks to Celia Heyman, I was able to have podcast fave Dr. Greg Hanley join the Behavioral Observations Membership group to talk about implementing the PFA/SBT process via telemedicine. The recording of it is still available, so if you would like to join, here's the info.
- I've been charting various Covid-19 data on the Standard Celeration Chart for the state of New Hampshire recently. I've been posting these charts on social media, including Instagram.
- Consider joining the Standard Celeration Society's Covid-19 FB group. There are lots of dedicated charters who are plotting all sorts of data for their communities.
- Staying with the "I'm obsessed with the pandemic" theme, I posted this on the Behavioral Observations FB
page. By several orders of magnitude, this was the most commented on post, which led me to do something I have historically loathed: argue on the internet.
- In non-Covid news, my pals at ABA Inside Track were kind enough to have me on to talk about school consultation. It was fun chatting about my 'real job,' and at the same time, it made me miss my usual routine. If you're a school consultant or thinking of consulting to schools when the pandemic allows kids to return, I hope you check it
out.
- Drs. Rick Kubina and Doug Kostewicz were also kind enough to have Dr. Lisa Britton and me on ABA on Call to chat about remote supervision. I think a lot of supervisors and trainees have been involuntarily thrust into remote supervision, so I hope the book we wrote on the topic, Remote Supervision for BCBA Trainees, can be of help to those in this situation.
- If you did not get a chance to listen to the 3rd installment of the Inside JABA Series, please consider doing so. The title of the podcast, Accumulated versus Distributed Reinforcement, sounds boring as hell, but the episode itself was, in my biased opinion, really interesting. If you have any questions or concerns regarding
how to think about spacing out reinforcer delivery with your learners, you're going to want to give this one a listen. And, it is available for CEU's too!
I think that's it for now. Huge thanks to sponsors Behavior University and GoLotus for supporting the show this month! Both of these companies are offering podcast-related discounts, so if you need CEUs or help with digitizing data collection and/or practice management tasks, please check them out.
All the best, Matt
