Guilt - Cause and Effects

  We can all feel guilty for various reasons that can have positive       outcomes e.g You are mean to someone when actually your blood sugars are low. This can be a positive guilt as it will encourage us to apologise. the problems come when we feel guilt for living. 

 Guilt Complex

Problems of guilt complex often start at an early age. If a parent is always cross (with their lives, not you) we absorb that and feel it is us who are wrong. Controlling partners, overbearing teachers and bullying peers will have the same effect. 

Surviving trauma, abuse or being a survivor of an accident/ terrorist attack or natural events can also lead to serious survivor guilt. 

Symptoms of Guilt Complex

These can be all or just one of the following

• Anxiety over what others see as simple things
• Crying easily
• Insomnia or feeling exhausted
• Muscle tension
• Preoccupation with past mistakes
• Regret
• Upset stomach/ churning
• Worrying inappropriately
