Hi
Wishing our Jewish community a wonderful 8 nights of love,
laugher and light from the RHA!
Our cool evening weather looks like it will continue for the week with lows dipping into the 40's most nights. If you like to walk after dusk, be sure to wear light colored or reflective clothing so drivers and cyclists can see you when you cross the street. Your safety is our primary concern. Be safe.
In addition to our School Spotlight on Weaver, there are some really cool coming events for the holiday season, including our annual Rossmoor Toy Drive, Rossmoor Woman's Club Holiday Bazaar, Rossmoor Winter Festival, and of course our Rossmoor Christmas Lights Celebration.
Youth Center Tree Lot Is OPEN!
YES! The Youth Center is once again selling trees at Ganahl Lumber! We spoke with Executive Director Lina Lumme last week, and she is excited about this year's event.
As you might expect, Christmas trees will be in shorter supply (and with higher prices) in Southern CA, due to the Oregon and Washington wildfires.
Because of their long-standing relationship with their tree vendor, they are a favored-customer, and the trees arrived on Saturday morning. The Youth Center's vendor is in Oregon, high up in the mountains, and they are trucked down EXTREMELY FRESH (and with little increase in prices from last year). As noted - the cause is top notch! And the prices are great for such high quality trees (these trees are graded "A"
the box stores get "B" and "C" graded trees).
Beat the Rush! Next weekend will be crazy busy at the tree lot. If you want to pick out the freshest tree for your home, get up to Ganahl this week (the lot is open until 9:00 p.m.) and make your choice.
Where Do You Volunteer?
We know that Rossmoor Rocks when it comes to volunteering and helping others. And there are many ways to volunteer. There's community service (Red Cross, CERT, RHA, at our schools, etc.), religious organizations (churches, synagogues, etc.), Scouting/youth programs, medical programs (at hospitals, Cancer Society, Alzheimer's Center, Heart Association, etc.), and and working with those organizations that feed people in need like
Second Harvest.
Our question for you is, where do you and your family volunteer?
Let us know here.
RHA Community Engagement Facebook Group
Over the weekend our Community Engagement Team launched a new Facebook group that we encourage you to join. Things you can expect to see in the group are posts about activities and
events associated with the RHA, as well as postings on community service opportunities that we are developing with the partnerships we are forming - The Youth Center is our first - and we couldn't be happier. Pop into the group and see what's happening (no politics please).

Rossmoor Christmas Lights Celebration
|
Nominations are OPEN!
It's Up On the Rooftop Time
There’s nothing quite like the joy of relaxing in a lounge chair across the street from your house, with your favorite beverage in hand, admiring the Christmas Lights display you broke your back assembling over the past few days.
Hang on! We’re not encouraging any lounge chairs, yet!! (*drum roll*) It’s that time of year! It’s time for you to bask in the holiday cheer and spread the Christmas spirit to all of Rossmoor!
Yes, the Rossmoor Christmas Lights Celebration is back for its 15th year, and we’re calling on all the Christmas Lights veteran crazies (and 1st-time rookie entrants) to unpack the boxes of colored lights, winter wonderland figures, and anything that glows to prepare a display across your house and lawn for all to enjoy. On certain streets, there may even be a
few Woodstocks stowed away in those boxes?
Let the decorating and festivities begin!
Start by nominating your house up (or a well-decorated neighbor’s house) for the RHA Christmas Lights Celebration! Judges will roam the streets on Sunday, December 12th and winning homes will be announced here on the RHA website by Wednesday, December
15th.
We have prizes for those that nominate decked out houses too, so get out there and start nominating. There are a good number of decked out houses already spreading cheer to Rossmoor!
Complete schedule and details (including the Lights Bike Tour) here.

School Spotlight - Weaver Elementary
|
Note: this is the first of a four part series that introduces our readers to each of the Rossmoor elementary schools. You can read the full article here
Our first visit was to Rossmoor’s second elementary school, which opened in 1959, Jack L. Weaver school. Weaver, home of the spirited Weaver Whales is guided by the plans and visions of Principal Dr. Todd Schmidt. The school, named after Los Alamitos School District’s first superintendent of schools, is the only school in the district that operates on a year-round schedule, and is the “second
home” to 675 students, as they grow and learn.
In the two short years since starting as principal, Dr. Schmidt has rolled out Weaver’s STEAM classes complete with a teacher solely dedicated to the Media Center; this was in collaboration with Friends of Weaver (FOW), Weaver’s Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and the Los Alamitos Education Foundation (LAEF). He continues to work with teachers and staff to find ways to utilize technology as a means of enhancing student learning and teacher
efficacy.
Volunteers working tirelessly, endlessly give for our students – FOW’s primary fundraiser, its Saturday Night Weaver Gala will be happening on March 22, 2022, at Old Ranch Country Club, in Seal Beach.
FOW supports Weaver’s STEAM instructor, intervention teacher, media center renovations, and student enrichment tools. We can’t thank them enough. While the State of California and our district is forced to make decisions that could compromise or eliminate any programs, our volunteers rush in to find and raise funds to ensure the continuity and stability of the programs in each school. More info to come later, on the gala.

Last Chance - 2021 Rossmoor Toy Drive
|
Our Annual Rossmoor Toy Drive runs the full month of November!

There are two ways to you can help. First, you can go shopping and purchase gifts for children ages 3 to 17 and drop them off at Ganahl Lumber, the Friends of the Los Alamitos-Rossmoor Library, or The Youth Center (addresses above) during regular business hours.
Or the second way, makes it super easy for you by letting The Youth Center team take care of the buying for you. You can do this by making a donation to The Youth Center (click here) and you may even be able to deduct the gift on your taxes.
