Last Summer and Fall we suspected something was "off" with Gracie. She was drinking too much water, but tested negative for diabetes. (You might remember that Ginger, my previous dog, was diagnosed with diabetes.) Further tests showed a likelihood of
Cushing's Disease brought on by a tumor on her pituitary gland. In turn, that tumor causes the adrenal glands to produce too much cortisol - the stress hormone.
To say the least, I have a new appreciation for stress. Yet again, my dog is my teacher. Gracie is showing me what stress does to the physical body, even while her spirit thrives.
All along, for her entire life in fact, Gracie has received daily doses of zeolite. She's also had the benefit of supplements and a raw diet. You might think that was enough. With her diagnosis, I stepped up her dosing of zeolite. It's what I also recommend for anyone in crisis - more frequent doses of zeolite.
Up until last month, I thought it was enough. It wasn't. You see, I was using zeolite from the company I trusted since 2006. It was the zeolite that saved Ginger's life and the lives of so many others - people and animals! However, about eight years ago, the company changed manufacturers. The process changed and the product changed. It
wasn't as clean and pure as the original product. The particles weren't as tiny as the original zeolite . . . but it was the best we had.
We have been able to keep Gracie somewhat stable, slowing down the progression of the disease. Now I have more HOPE because of what happened at the end of March - just a few short weeks ago.
