I’ve never been good at running, so when my husband asked me if I would train for and run a 5k with him, I thought he was crazy. What was even crazier is that I said yes.

At first, like rookies, we relied solely on running to train, and we were burnt out after just a few weeks. It wasn’t until we started incorporating a variety of exercises into our training regimen that we started seeing real progress. 

We hiked, biked, and swam. We did strength training and yoga. This well-rounded approach was more enjoyable and sustainable, and we were better positioned to build our running endurance. 

When race day came, we crushed it. I still can’t believe I was able to go from struggling to run one mile, to running a whole 5k in decent time (27:13–in case you were curious ✨).
