Over 23+ years, I've learned a lot that's made my life as a chess coach much easier. I've coached 35,000+ kids over the years, but early in my career, trial and error helped me realize that there are three keys to turning a first-time student into one who will stick around for years:
- They must get "over the hump" as quickly as possible - kids enjoy chess more when they can actually play with a minimum level of competence
- Students NEED to play/practice in between classes - this avoids having to re-teach the same ideas over and over, holding the rest of the class back
- Incentives help to excite and inspire students, helping with points 1 and 2
That's why I wanted to let you know about a new product, Coach Jay's Chess Academy, that addresses all three of these keys. International Master Armen Ambartsoumian (one of the key coaches for the U.S. Team at the World Youth) was at first skeptical (as he says in this video), but now he loves the ease of use and thoroughness that this program provides for that 95% of our students who are rated under 1000.

- Helping students get up to speed quickly
- Giving them fun exercises and puzzles to work on between classes
