Weekend Clubs

2019 May

Special events every weekend!

Dear Parents,

BAC has some fantastic offers and unique events coming to the weekend clubs in May! EVERY CLUB has something exciting going on, please explore our options and make the most of May with chess and games!

Please also note that ALL BAC clubs are OFF on the weekend of May 25-26 to observe the Memorial Day Holiday.

Reminder: All BAC Clubs are Drop-in (you show up any weekend and just pay at the door!)

Promotion: "Bring a Friend!"
Where: San Jose and Los Gatos Clubs! (only)
When: May 4th, 11th and 18th!
What:
Any student that brings a friend to either of these two clubs that has never participated in a BAC Club, will receive $10 off of the drop-in price for themselves AND for the friend! Any single student that does this two times in the course of the month (with two different friends) will receive a medal! You may use this with Bundles and be 'refunded' the $10 discount.

"En Garde!"
Where: Palo Alto Strategy-Games Club (Sat 1-3pm)
When: Saturday, May 18th (12:30 - 3:00 pm)
What:
We are bringing in the Davenriche European Martial Arts School ( https://www.swordfightingschool.com/kids-classes ), based in Santa Clara, to come in and do a demonstration for our Strategy-Gamers on May 18th. The guest instructor will give a history lesson and show samples of medieval weapons/armor and the techniques and strategies used to wield them. Then, outdoors, the students will dress up in training gear and be given a physical lesson in the art of fencing/sword-play! Size will not matter, but the minimum age for this event will be 7 years. After the demonstration, the kids will engage in a board game designed around their newfound dueling talents. The Club will also open 30 minutes earlier on this day, so kids are welcome to come as early as 12:30 for free-play gaming until it starts at 1pm. There is NO extra cost for this Event, it will be treated as a standard weekend Club. For more information on the Davenriche Sword Fighting School, please visit the link above. Don't miss out, this is a very unique club experience!

"Upgrade!"
Where: Palo Alto Chess Club (Sat 3-5pm)
When: On-going, Every week!
What:
Many kids and parents do not realize that the Palo Alto Chess Club (only) has a very special ongoing feature that allows kids to trade in their existing chess medals and trophies to upgrade them for larger prizes! At Palo Alto Chess Club, they may trade in 3 of their medals for a small trophy. Or, two small trophies for a medium sized one, 2 medium = 1 Large and so on! We may not accept medals/trophies that are specific to another company, but any generic or BAC item will work. Don't let all of those medals sit and collect dust, reward their consistent efforts with trades and upgrades (watch how it engages them!)

"Tournament of Variants, part 4"
Where: Cupertino Chess Club (Sun 5-8pm)
When: Sunday, May 19th
What:
Our fourth bi-monthly Tournament of Variants, featuring a non-rated practice Swiss tournament with unique rules EVERY game randomized from a pool of eight Variants! Chess Variants are an exciting way to compete with new challenges and be forced to think outside the box. Rules for each variant will be explained before each game. The prize pool will be even bigger this May, and participation awards will be given to each player. The event will be treated as any other club, so the price is the same and there's no need to register. As always, the Cupertino club will be serving Pizza as well!
