It's Time for Spring Cleaning!

Dear Pet Parent,

Spring has sprung! This is one of my favorite times of year! This is the time, we can all hit the reset button.

As most of you know, spring is the season to nourish and cleanse the liver. In TCVM, the liver is considered "The General" of the body. He is responsible for keeping the body in perfect working order. When we take time to cleanse and nourish the liver, we are allowing the body to "reset" and prepare for the year ahead.

The Liver's Main Functions Include:
  1. Maintaining a smooth flow of qi (energy) throughout the body
  2. Assisting in digestion
  3. Detoxing and nourishing the blood; neutralizing the effects of pharmaceuticals, vaccines, flea/tick and heartworm preventatives, food additives and preservatives
  4. Brightening the eyes for clearer vision
  5. Strengthening the tendons and ligaments for better mobility
  6. Protecting the immune system from overstimulation or suppression
When the Liver is Unbalanced We May See:
  1. Digestive Issues: Vomiting, Diarrhea, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Food Sensitivities or Allergies
  2. Liver Disease: Fatty Liver, Elevated Liver Enzymes, Gallstones, Bile Flow Issues
  3. Eye Disorders: Glaucoma, Uveitis, Conjunctivitis, Decreased Tear Production, Weeping or Chronic Eye Discharge
  4. Ear Infections
  5. Tendon/ligament Damage: ACL Injuries, Tendonitis, Bursitis, Stiff Joints with Poor Mobility
  6. Autoimmune Diseases or Chronic Disease Related to a Poor or Ineffective Immune System
  7. Seizures or Strokes
  8. Skin Allergies - Severe Itching or Red, Dry Skin
What Can We Do to Prevent Liver Imbalances?
  1. Limit the Toxins the liver has to deal with by reducing or limiting pharmaceuticals, frequent/annual vaccines, reducing the frequency of chemical flea/tick/heartworm preventatives (especially during the spring)
  2. Feed a Well Balanced, species appropriate diet
  3. Receive Acupuncture to maintain a proper flow of qi
  4. Give Supplements to help detox and nourish the liver, (especially during the spring)
  5. Be Proactive and address any of the imbalances listed above before they become chronic issues
Early detection can help prevent the worst effects of liver disease and improve your pet's longevity and quality of life.
