January 2022

Hi ,
Welcome to the first quarterly edition of OGSR Wireline in 2022. Our quarterly editions are longer form intended to give an update on Library operations and a preview of things to come.
This year we look forward to delivering more data in an automated and always available way through our website. Our focus on improved digital delivery is already providing faster data access to Library users in the form of next day geological imaging, see below for details!
We are planning a pair of talks at the upcoming Virtual Groundwater Open House so be sure to get your tickets to this event and watch the Library's talks on 3D printing and VR for geologists.
All the best,
OGSR Library Team

Library Imaging Improvements
By Jordan
Last year we announced 30,000 rock images available to Library users through our data layers, known as PxTools, for Google Earth.
Already this year we are announcing updates to data availability. Core photographs and chip photographs taken by Library staff will now appear automatically in these layers at the end of every day.
With over 200 new photographs being added each week by Library staff be sure to check back often as this great, and open, research tool continues to grow!
As a reminder, these core photographs are displayed in preview quality and the full-size images are available for purchase as your project requires a closer look at the core -- or come in to the library and get hands-on the core in
person.
This is just the beginning of many new updates coming to the website this year as we strive to create tools to improve remote research.
Geology QA/QC Knowledge Update
By Candace, Ramen, and Zohreh
Happy New Year from the OGSRL geology team. Since our last update, we have completed the geological QAQC component which supports the development of the Southern Ontario’s 3-D hydrostratigraphic model. These final tasks involved the QAQC of water intervals recorded for 255 Petroleum wells located in both Huron and Bruce counties and completing the review of Silurian
Lockport Group water interval formation assignments.
Additionally, we have added 45 more wells to that core and sample chip photography catalogue, which includes 1166 core boxes and 628 sample chip vials. These photos can be viewed using the OGSRL’s Google Earth Sample Chip Microscopy or Core Photos KML layers. These are located in OGSR Library PXTool-> Geological Imaging -> Core Photos/Microscope
Chip Photos.
The Core Photographs are available to be viewed in dry, wet, or UV light conditions, and include an option where the viewer can Draw on Image to virtually ‘wet’ the core with a chosen brush size (See image below). The Microscope Chip Photos have three photo
resolutions that the viewer can choose from, with labels indicating the sample interval and photo magnification (usually 10X).
I encourage members to check out our online PxTools and if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact us - we
will be happy to help!
Additionally, the 2021 Oil and Gas Production Reports have been updated and are ready for OGSRL members to view.

Happy New Year! We’re looking forward to releasing lots of new video content this year on our YouTube channel. Let’s have a look at what we have in store for 2022, as well as a review of what we released last year.
Our Rock Talks series has returned with a new season of field trips and more with Rhys and Hanna. We released the first episode on New Year’s Eve to mark the occasion. These will be the first episodes of this series released since 2019. For the premiere we did something a little different
by having Rhys try out the Ontario Subsurface Exploration Lab, the Virtual Reality app we made for the Oculus headset (as seen in our VR Developer Diary series available on our YouTube channel, if you are curious about how such a thing is made). Rhys checks out the app before trying out a little quiz to test her Paleozoic bedrock knowledge and the results are really fun. Future episodes will cover trips to Eramosa Karts Conservation Area, Balls Falls, and more. Other things to look forward to
include Lake Erie drilling footage from 1984 with commentary from a well known geologist, videos on how our data is processed, more videos in a Virtual Reality format, and hopefully presentations from a new EPEX conference later this year.
Last year was relatively slow for uploads to our YouTube channel. We released 10 videos, compared to 20 in 2019. The majority of the content uploaded covered the virtual EPEX conference held on Jun 8, 2021. All talks from that event are up on our YouTube channel, now with accurate subtitles, which is something I hope to do for all our
videos down the road. Also, be sure to check out our video How to Explore Ontario’s Deep Paleozoic Bedrock at OGSR Library. This video was made by our manager Jordan Clark for the carbon capture and storage workshop in Waterloo 2021 and displays the latest ways to explore and use our data, with a focus on how we have made more available online. Even if you have been familiar with us for years you may be surprised.
We are excited for another year of bringing you new ways to explore the Ontario subsurface, and to continue to improve what we have to offer. We hope you will join us. Leave us a comment on our YouTube channel if you see something you like or have any suggestions for content you would like to see in the future.

What is the OGSR Library?
The Oil, Gas & Salt Resources Library is a not-for-profit corporation that manages all of Ontario's public drilling and production data from the petroleum and solution mined salt industries. This includes processing, storing, and providing safe and convenient access to all of the industry's drill core and rock cuttings. The Library makes as much of this data as possible available through our online portal to members all over the world. The financial support of the petroleum industry and
our membership make this possible.
