Hey it's Keith Kravitz and I can't get wait to get you airborne over the National Park.
So far, so good this spring. The weather has been phenomenal and the Canyon has never looked better.
And the crowds?
They are here and they want helicopter tours, which is why I always recommend you RSVP your tour before you get here.
Seems more and more people are reading my article about the best time to fly Makes sense as the best departure times sell out the quickest.
Still on the fence about taking a helicopter or an airplane tour? I agree. It's a pickle. But don't stress. Read this article about which tour is best for you.
Let's move on...
Type of Tour
There are two kinds of helicopter tours: Air-only and landing. Unsure which is best for you? Read this article...
Sunset Tours
Sunset flights from Las Vegas are back! They leave once a day and are the last departure. This restriction makes them hard to book because supply is limited. The flight takes off from the Strip and goes over Hoover Dam and Lake Mead before landing at the bottom for a Champagne picnic. Then it's back to Vegas at dusk and a tour over the Vegas lights as they turn on. Tip:
Consider a private sunset tour.
4-in-1 MEGA Tour
This SUPER tour hit-and-miss in terms of availability. That's because it's got so many moving parts. Flight to the Canyon. Land. Then heli to the bottom. Land. Transfer to boat and do the River. Back on land, get in heli and go to top. Deplane. Do Skywalk. Afterward, you call the shots as you explore the West Rim. It's a heck of a tour, but you've got to RSVP it quick
because daily departures are so limited.
Air-Only (No Landing)
Everything I've read tells me the American economy is strong. I'll take it. Ironically, I've been getting a ton of people asking for the cheapest tour available. They must be spending more in Vegas on food, drink and gaming than on attractions. Hey, whatever floats your boat. In this situation, I recommend taking the air-only flight. It's the cheapest option but, man, you get to see a lot of stuff. This tour can also be privatized!
Champagne Picnic
The #1 most popular tour is still the bottom-landing Champagne Picnic tour. I've been waiting for another tour to de-throne it but clearly that's not going to happen. What makes it so popular? Value! This tour combines flying over Lake Mead, Hoover Dam and the Colorado River w/ a bottom-landing. Moreover, the tour is only available from Las Vegas and going below the rim can
only happen at the West Rim. Upgrade to deluxe for the free hotel limo transfers. Or book out all seats and make this tour private.
South Rim
There's a great selection of air-only tours at South Rim (these tours don't go below the rim. Doing so is banned by the National Park Service). My fave is the 50-min tour. Covers all the rims and more. Then there's the 30-min. economy, and it can be privatized. For the best air-ground combo, consider the
30-min. heli w/ 4x4 Jeep, which can be upgraded to sunset Jeep.
