Hi – Are you growing any herbs this year? If so—or if you’re dreaming of your future herb garden—then we highly recommend starting with herbs that you can use for tea! Caring for a tea garden can be a simple practice and is a great way to hone your skills as an herbalist while getting to know
individual plants. Herb gardens come in a variety of shapes and sizes. They can be planted in the ground, in raised beds, or in containers depending on your situation, space limitations, and preference. You can start seeds indoors or sow them directly in the soil or you can purchase seedlings at a plant nursery or farmers
market. |
If you would like to start your own tea garden (and we highly recommend you do!), the first step is to learn how to get started when it comes to creating a garden space where you will grow your herbs. Our blog post, How and Why To Start an Herb Garden, will walk you through a lot of the steps to getting started, from garden planning, choosing a space and size, and starting your own seeds. From there, choose which types of tea herbs you want to grow,
identifying those that are suited to your location, growing space, and taste preferences, and have additional uses in mind. In our Tea Blending 101 Workshop (which
officially opens TODAY!) we share this list of 15 of the easiest to grow herbs for a tea garden. - Calendula (Calendula officinalis)
- Motherwort (Leonurus cardiaca)
- Passionflower (Passiflora incarnata)
- Echinacea (Echinacea
purpurea)
- Tulsi (Ocimum tenuiflorum)
- Meadowsweet (Filipendula ulmaria)
- Peppermint (Mentha x piperita)
- Bee balm (Monarda fistulosa)
- Nettle (Urtica
dioica)
- Lemon balm (Melissa officinalis)
- Mullein (Verbascum thapsus)
- Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla)
- Thyme (Thymus vulgaris)
- Rosemary (Salvia
rosmarinus)
- Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia)
If you’re feeling intimidated, start small! A pot of lemon balm, a pot of peppermint, and a pot of tulsi on a sunny porch can give you hands-on experience, boost your gardening confidence, inspire tea time, and offer a whole lot of joy, as
well. You can do it! We believe in you!
