Let's take a look at the 4 parts of the part of the TIES Center's Comprehensive Inclusive Education: General Education & the Inclusive IEP resource.
Part 1: Collaborative Conversation
At any time during the year before a draft IEP is written, it's important that there have been initial collaborative conversations between general, special educators and families.
The goal of these meetings is to ensure understanding of the important foundations of inclusive education:
*** all students with IEPs are general education students first
*** the general education curriculum + school routines + IEP = the student's education program
*** the students' IEPs are to support their access to the general education curriculum so they can actively participate, contribute, and learn with their classmates.

Part 2: Creating an Inclusive IEP
Inclusive IEP goals are written for three priority areas:
*** participating in routines & transitions
*** engaging in academics & other important skills
*** interacting with classmates & adults
Part 3: Education Day-At-A-Glance
The Education Day-at a Glance tool is the perfect way to communicate and plan together, supporting effective collaboration with all IEP team members. There are three main components of the Education Day-at-a-Glance:

Supports/Accommodations

After the general education class' schedule is written, the IEP team decides which IEP goals can be embedded into which parts of the general education class schedule. The team also examines which supports and accommodations are needed at different times of the day.
Another benefit of using this tool is all members of the team know when and where data collection opportunities exist with this daily schedule. Data can be collected to monitor student learning, so it's important for the IEP team to determine how frequently they'll want or need these measurements made in order to monitor student progress and the effectiveness of instructional strategies.

Part 4: Ongoing Collaboration
The team, including teachers and family members, will work together to create a plan for ongoing collaboration during the year. They'll also provide support for one another so that student is successful at school!
