I’m not an expert at this and I just find it so intriguing that I wanted to get your thoughts.
I’ve been re-reading a book by Peter Block, The Answer to How is Yes: Acting On What Matters. For one, I just love the title and there are 6 more reasons I am intrigued with the author’s thoughts and suggestions.
The other 6 reasons have to do with six How questions that we often ask and yet we don’t realize how limiting the How questions are. There are some serious consequences of asking How questions at IEP meetings.
I hope you can come to our live The Art of Advocacy show on Thursday, February 24th where we can talk about what How questions we want to replace AND what we can ask instead.
Question # 4 in the book is, “How do you get these people to change?” I’ve spent tons of energy trying to find the answer to this question since being a teacher, parent, and advocate. I bet you have also wanted the answer to this question.
And guess what??? I’m going to suggest a different question to replace, How do you get these people to change?
