Thanks for opening up this edition of the Friday Four. Let's get things started by sharing a recent podcast episode that I recorded with my buddy Michael Keeler:
My Friday FOUR:
Four pieces of content I've consumed this past week that will influence my future blog material and challenge me to think differently about how I manage Cressey Sports Performance. As always, I'm looking to bring you
some business-specific information from outside of the world of fitness. Enjoy:
- From 200 Words To $20M Company (Podcast) - This brand new show from Chris Cooper is great. I
especially appreciated his thoughts on the importance of business mentorship and his take on the value that often goes underutilized from the top 10% of our content.
- The Future of Retail Isn't Direct-to-Consumer - I was pleased to learn that 54% of US consumers said that they currently prefer stores to websites, and that 2022 brick and mortar openings outpaced closings by a 5:1 margin. This jumped off the page to me simply because I can see the parallels to a fitness industry that went almost entirely online for a period in 2020, and has since been a little sluggish to come back.
- Can You Trust Tax Advice on TikTok? - This was a surprisingly informative article that brought clarity to the tax tips I see on every platform, and not just TikTok. One in particular, the "pay your kids tax-free" approach, has
been on my radar a bunch lately, and I finally have some clarity on the matter thanks to the experts surveyed here.
- What Great Sponsors Do Differently - There's often a misunderstanding of the difference between
mentorship and sponsorship, and this HBR article does a nice job of illustrating the line between the two. If there is an up and coming coach in your operation that you can see potential in, your role as a senior leader should be to invest in their development. There's plenty of practical guidance on exactly how to do so here.
Make sure to let me know if you come across any material that you think I'd enjoy. More importantly, have a
great weekend.
