Thanks for opening up this edition of the Friday Four. Let's get things started by sharing a recent podcast episode that I recorded with my buddy Michael Keeler:
- Business for Unicorns Podcast - Pricing/Culture/Part-Time Employees - In this quick episode Michael and I got into the mechanics of communicating a price increase to clients in a manner that will allow them to
understand where and how you intend to reinvest the additional dollars collected. We also shared our respective philosophies on facilitating an unparallelled gym culture.
My Friday FOUR:
Four pieces of content I've consumed this past week that will influence my
future blog material and challenge me to think differently about how I manage Cressey Sports Performance. As always, I'm looking to bring you some business-specific information from outside of the world of fitness. Enjoy:
- Three Resume Mistakes That Can Sabotage Your Job
Application - I was thrilled to see an emphasis on both improving your writing skills, and demonstrating that you are not a perpetual job-hopper in this series of resume improvement suggestions. In over 15 years of fitness resume review, both of these issues have increasingly become consistent problems for the bulk of our coaching and internship candidate pools.
- Why Every Employee You Hire Should be a Leader - This article helped me to realize that my leadership skills are no more important than those of my entry-level coaches (and even the
interns) that roam our training floor.
- The Audacity of the Crowd Anthem - Seth Godin gave us all a wonderful reason to push through feelings of imposter syndrome in this quick blog post, and I loved
it.
- The Complicated Effects of Pay Transparency - A number of states are moving toward laws mandating compensation transparency and there are most definitely consequences for the businesses impacted.
This article did a nice job of illustrating a number of fascinating takeaways relating to the relationship between pay and performance, how it impacts the collective earnings of a given team, and the effect it has on the retention of top performers.
Make sure to let me know if you come across any material that you think I'd enjoy. More importantly, have a great weekend.
