Thanks for opening up this edition of the Friday Four. Let's get things started by sharing a recent podcast episode that I recorded with my buddies Mark Fisher and Michael Keeler:
- What is the Right Energy for a Trainer? - In this conversation we got into our general rules for identifying and nurturing coaches with the charisma and social awareness required to thrive in our respective gym
settings.
My Friday FOUR:
Four pieces of content I've consumed this past week that will influence my future blog material and challenge me to think differently about how I manage Cressey Sports Performance. As always, I'm looking to bring
you some business-specific information from outside of the world of fitness. Enjoy:
- Wisdom From The Top: Ken Hicks - This podcast episode was full of solid leadership advice, tips for integrating storytelling
in your business endeavors, and general fascinating lessons relating to the world of retail. If you enjoy How I Built This, you'll likely love Wisdom From The Top.
- Cultivating Hobbies Can Improve Mental Health and the Workplace - Did you know that for me, "me time" is the two hours I spend playing men's league soccer every Sunday morning (I'm going to guess you didn't)? There are parts of the year when we aren't in-season, and I find that my attitude both at home and in the workplace suffers, as I go extended periods without making time for something that gets my mind off of the usual grind of day-to-day life. If you don't currently
have a hobby outside of work, I'd suggest you read this article...and then go find one.
- Quietly Change It - I’m well aware of the voice in your head that Seth Godin speaks of in this blog post. His two cents on the topic will likely help
you to ship content that you’ve been otherwise hesitant about sharing.
- Coaching Your Team as a Collective Makes it Stronger - At a gym like mine, where collective
impact is far more important than individual performance, this concept of group coaching is of great importance. One way we practice this habit is in mandating a weekly in-service routine where team members rotate presentation responsibilities and are expected to continuously introduce new ideas and concepts based on their unique areas of interest..
Make sure to let me know if you come
across any material that you think I'd enjoy. More importantly, have a great weekend.
