input and output gating.
Input gating is needed for flexible attention focus - the ability to switch rapidly between different sources of information. Training input gating improves focus, flexibility, self-control and resilience.
Output gating is needed for learning, generalizing, reasoning, planning and decision-making - anything requiring abstracting from limited data. Training output gating improves these cognitive abilities.
Input and output gating are executive control functions making Gated Dual N-Back a combined executive function-working memory training game. Training both together is more effective for augmenting IQ, as measured by valid, standardized IQ
