"Tell us about
your childhood," she asked.
I had the honor last week of being interviewed by Demetria Goode and Cyddy Cyd for their Unfiltered Unspoken podcast. She shares real-life stories of people who've overcome childhood trauma/domestic violence and come out stronger.
I'd given Demetria a brief personal history before our interview. Even so, she wasn't prepared for what came out of my mouth.
Growing up in a nudist colony. Being abused by an older GIRL who had me convinced she was possessed by a demon and would kill my family if I told anyone the terrifying things she did to me. Then a string of abusive relationships that lasted well into adulthood.
Finally, after a total meltdown over peanut butter of all things, I realized I needed to FIND MYSELF before it was too late.
See, I'd done healing work in college. But that didn't end the pattern of abuse because I didn't know who I was anymore. I still believed I was unlovable and unworthy.
So I went on a journey to find myself, LOVE myself, and stop chasing achievement and relationships for my worth. Then and only then did I end the cycle of abuse. Then and only then did I recognize healthy love when I saw it (and abusive love for what it was.)
Only then did I truly heal.
People ask me why I help women build their confidence and know their worth.
It's because of my story. Because I know what it takes to rediscover yourself. To love and trust yourself again. And it's my mission to help other women do the same.
Because you deserve peace. You deserve healing. You deserve to love yourself.
Because you're worth it.
