Since New Year's is a time of reflection, which tends to result in setting new goals or habits, I wanted to share some tips for those of you who are thinking of making changes to routines or habits.
The first step is making a decision or resolving to change or improve. Be optimistic and proactive when thinking about forming new habits. What do you want to do better, more efficiently, or more creatively? How do you want to change?
Second, how do you start to make changes? After you make the decision to change, then make a decision to commit to the change; in other words, make a resolution. A resolution is just a tool for helping us get our commitments down on paper to remind us of our promise to ourselves. You can use any method to
record your resolutions.
One problem many of us tend to make when making resolutions is making too many resolutions at once. Formulating too many resolutions may be unmanageable and therefore, you may be subconsciously setting yourself up for failure. So keep it simple and start small, a few goals at a time.
You can read more specifics of writing resolutions in my January 2020 post: Start the New Year with a Clean Slate
I created a Goals template for you to download and use to record your goals (see above). Use this template to record one goal at a time. Then tape or pin this document somewhere you will be reminded of your commitment to change!

As nurses, wearing a face mask is second nature; however, wearing a face mask all day and when out in public has become a controversial topic. I'm working on a post about the evidence behind the advice to wear (or not to wear) a face mask in public.
I'll put out a Quick Tip with bullet points for all, and for those with NEE Insider & Premier memberships, I'll do a deep dive with specifics about the recent studies about mask-wearing and about the practice of extending, re-using, and reprocessing masks.
