+ Riding to Cure Type 1 | The Doctor's Note
Our team at Hunter Diabetes Centre have taken on the challenge of the JDRF One Ride this April; an 80km charity bike ride through the Barossa Valley in SA. All proceeds raised for this event go towards the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) and their goal of finding a cure for Type 1 Diabetes.

We have decided to set ourselves the One Ride challenge to reflect the challenge of living with Type 1 Diabetes. We see patients every day who are living with diabetes and know the difficulties that come along with management and treatment. A world without diabetes is our ideal world, and finding a cure for Type 1 Diabetes would better the lives of so many.

Every dollar raised by our team will go straight towards funding research into this cure – but we can’t achieve this alone. A donation from you would greatly assist us in reaching our fundraising target. Any amount helps; helps us find the 80km finish line, but more importantly, helps JDRF find a Type 1 Diabetes cure. So dig deep, and help us work towards a world without Type 1 Diabetes.

+ Diabetes Education Sessions | Education
A diagnosis of diabetes introduces a whole new way of life, from new lingo, to new technology, to a new health care regime. It can be a daunting process, but with proper education, it doesn't need to be.

We want to help those newly diagnosed with Type 1 or 2 Diabetes, those caring for someone with diabetes, or those just needing a refresher. We will therefore be holding a series of educational workshops from April-August 2018 at our centre in Merewether. Presented by our Credentialled Diabetes Educators and Dietitians, each session will focus on different areas of diabetes and diabetes management; including medications, exercise, carb counting, eating well and annual cycle of care. There will be 5 sessions for Type 1 Diabetes, and 5 sessions for Type 2 Diabetes.

Tickets are $15 per session or $60 if you book all 5 (that's 1 session FREE!). Carers, family & friends are welcome to attend, as well as healthcare professionals wanting to update their diabetes knowledge. Tickets can be purchased at the link below - there are limited spots available so bookings are essential. As an added bonus, a donation will be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) for every ticket purchased.
