I can't believe that it's the end of August, and with the shorter days and cooler nights, it's already starting to feel like autumn. Unfortunately, between the extreme heat and the wildfire smoke (my gramma compared it to going from living in a furnace to living in the chimney), we didn't really get to enjoy the summer season.

Jasmine calved on July 28th with my third calf—and third heifer—of the year. All the heifer calves from my Blossom cow family are given flower names, and I named the newest addition to my herd Mountain Heather after my mom, Heather.
Zara calved on August 10th with a bull calf that my Instagram followers named Titus.
Ironically, Jasmine and Zara were due just one day apart, on August 2nd and 3rd, respectively. However, Jasmine calved five days before her due date, while Zara calved seven days after her due date. The gestation period for bull calves is typically longer than for heifers, so it's relatively common for heifer calves to be born 'early' and bulls to be born 'late.'
