There is no denying that our world is becoming increasingly complex and uncertain. We are dealing with multiple global crises such as climate change, the pollution of our oceans with plastics, the loss of delicate ecosystems and species extinction, the Russia Ukraine war, the crisis in the Middle East, an increase in human slavery and trafficking, financial crisis with many of the world's developed countries in billions of
dollars of debt, a failure of global political systems with growing public dissent and an overall breakdown of community.
How have we gotten to this point in our human history? The answer to this question is also complex and has to do with multiple factors which is difficult to simplify. If you look at our ancient ancestors, they were intimately connected to the natural world and lived in harmony with the land. As we progressed from the nomadic age to the agricultural age to
the industrial age to the technological age to the information age, we have become increasingly removed, not just from the natural world, but from ourselves.
We have forgotten who we are and have sight of our true reason for being here on the planet due to the multitude of distractions that vie for our attention to the neglect of what truly matters.
This is going to be the start of a series of posts in which I try to dissect the crisis of identity which has
led to our multiple global crises or meta-crises and try to get at the roots of how we can begin to undo these and get back on track both individually and as a whole.
In the meantime, I'd love to hear from you. What do you think is the solution to the meta-crisis that humanity is facing?
