In the last post I introduced the idea that we are dealing with multiple global crises, environmental, political, social, economic and healthcare related, all of which compromise what is known as the meta crisis. How have we gotten to this point and what can we do about it?
The first thing we must do is understand why we have gotten to this point. The answer to this question is quite complex
but can be boiled down to the simple concept of focus and attention. What we choose to focus on is what will multiply in our lives and our immediate surroundings. Most people's focus is on external entities, such as consumer goods, possessions, finances, appearances, influence and reputation.
This is because, most have been brainwashed by society to believe that these are what truly matters. Certainly, we need the above things to function in the world, but the problem is when
our focus is solely on these external factors to the exclusion of our inner world. What do I mean by our inner world? I am referring to the world of thoughts, emotions and consciousness. Consciousness refers to the deepest part of our being which some refer to as soul and spirit.
We must nurture our inner world as our outer reality is simply a reflection of our inner experience. In fact, it can be said that the state of the world is a reflection of the collective consciousness
of all of humanity. This does not bode well for most of humanity. Just look at the state of our world. We do have the power to influence our external reality, yet few people realize this and even fewer do anything about it.
This does not mean that we give up external pursuits and goals, but we do so while cultivating our inner world, because, in the end, this is the only thing that matters. Therefore, our focus needs to be anchored in our inner world and not the external
world. Our outer experience should be a byproduct of the state of our inner world, not the other way around.
The global meta crisis is actually a crisis of consciousness.
So, the question then arises, how do we cultivate our inner world? This is the question I will start to tackle in my next post.
