Engineers of Tomorrow - Inspiring the next
generation of problem solvers and game changers!
Welcome back Erica! We are delighted that Erica was able to take some time off to focus on family after the birth of her second daughter, Lucia. However, we are very happy to have her back too! We've got so many exciting projects in the
works!
Here's a recap of what we've been up to in May at EoT: - Attended PEO's EDU conference (see photo bottom right) which focused on STEAM (STEM + Arts) - we were excited to connect
with the chapters to report on the success of PEO's Engineer-in-Residence (EIR) program for 2017/2018 at their Education Conference. Some new chapters stepped forward to join the EIR Chapter Leader Program (launched September 2017). We are looking forward to another exciting year with the 2018/2019 EIR program, which matched over 200 Ontario teachers with engineering volunteers to provide in-classroom experiences
of engineering to thousands of students!
- Becky presented at OCTE (Ontario Council of Technology Educators) conference (see photo bottom left) - Thank you to OCTE for inviting us to share our "How to Wear Your Engineering
Hat" to teachers at their annual conference. There was lots of great discussion and idea sharing happening which we are always happy to be a part of.
- Erica attended CCWEST (Canadian Coalition of Women in Engineering, Science and Technology) in Edmonton as part of the WinSETT Team. (see photo bottom middle). Favorite insights included..."We get metrics and we get culture" (Deanna Burgart), "The cost of a non-diverse/inclusive workforce? A non-safe workforce, because mental +
emotional health is part of safety" (Erin Leonty), and "the importance of the oppressed not becoming the oppressor: need self-awareness + always look to help others" (Ruby Littlechild).
- Community Action Partnership Pilot Program update - we are wrapping up the pilot partnership with Procter and Gamble. We've been
working with them since the start of 2018 to train their employees on EoT's outreach methods. They have been coached through the facilitation of three local outreach events in classrooms. The feedback that has been received from the students, teachers, school board and volunteers has been tremendous - which means we are ready to grow & scale....talk to us about
how you can get your company involved!
Special Feature - EIRs & Teachers are loving PEO's EIR program!
As we wrap up the 2017/2018 EIR program year, we also begin the process of reaching out to all of the program participants. This is a great opportunity for us to connect with them and get some
feedback on their experiences. Here are some highlights!
Making us proud!
This month one of our own, EoT alum and EngiQueers Canada founder Vanessa Raponi was honoured with the Gold Medal from Engineers Canada, one of the most prestigious honours for a Canadian Engineering student. We love that she name-drops Erica in her profile acceptance video and we could not be prouder of the impact she's making on the engineering
profession. Keep on rockin', Vanessa!
Thank-you! The EoT Team
would like to thank Mizan Moges for her contribution as our Digital Media Intern. We are grateful for her support and strategic input to help us bring great content and messages to the EoT social media followers. Best of luck to you Mizan!
